HOW TO SIT IN FRONT
OF YOUR COMPUTER
If you're spending hours in
front of the computer, doing homework, e-mailing friends, and surfing the
INTERNET, make sure you're taking the right steps to minimize physical
strain on your body.
- Try to put as little strain
on your back, neck, and wrists as possible.
- Adjust your chair so that
your feet rest comfortably on the floor. If you can't adjust the chair,
get a foot rest or use a thick book (a science textbook maybe?)
- When possible, use a chair
that offers lumbar support. If you experience back or neck cramps, get
a back rest (available at any drug store). The backrest should conform
to the natural curve of your back.
- Your keyboard should be at
a height that lets your lower arms be parallel to the floor, your elbows
bent at a right angle. If necessary, get a key board tray.
- Your wrists should be slightly
higher than your elbows.
- The top of your screen should
be at eye level (this will prevent you from straining your neck).
- Don't forget to rest your
eyes. Look away from the screen regularly.
