STEPHEN GLINERT, F.M. & JEVGENYIJ BOGUSLAVSZKIJ, I.M. LEWIS HARKES - 3rd PLACE
Canadian Junior F.M. Stephen Glinert and Hungarian International Master Jevgenyij Boguslavszkij topped the 14-player FIDE rated Open Section with undefeated 4.5-1.5 final results to share $500. Prize money. Alone in third place was Lewis Harkes with a 4-2 final to win $200 cash, while Ted Kret and Isai Berengolts both scored 3.5-2.5 results to share the $100 Under 2300 prize.
STEPHEN GLINERT & JEVGENYIJ BOGUSLAVSZKIJ WIN 58 PLAYER FIDE & CFC SIMCOE DAY 2000 AT DCC
The Under 2100 Section was won outright by Chris Benson after Evgeny Miller from Israel (with a 2153 FIDE rating was disqualified). Chris scored 4.5-1.5 to win $200, while 3 players finished in a tie with 4 points apiece including Anil Vassanji, Ross Richardson and veteran Nick Zimninski. Meanwhile Igor Miller (Evgeny's father) scored 3.5 along with Richard Wing to win $150 each in the Under 1900 Class of this 21-player section.
The Under 1700 Section was captured by Patrick Jovian of Mississauga with an incredible 5.5 finish, while junior Pavel Fulmyk finished with 5-1 to win $200 in the Under 1500 Class and 8-year old David Hier with 4.5-1.5 to win $100. The "second" prize inthe Under 1700 was shared by 2 juniors - Alex Lambruschini and Peter Chan who both scored 4-2 final results to "move up" and take the cash in this 22-player section! A total of 57 players helped "pack" the air-conditioned Dutton Chess Club on Bayview where the monthly 2000 ACTIVE Series will be played on Saturdays starting August 26th.
