3-WAY
TIE @ DCC - FEBRUARY 24th ACTIVE
- 32 PLAYERS IN 2 SECTIONS TO BE
CFC ACTIVE RATED
Junior Mark Bluvshtein and Evgeni Miller
ended up in a 3 way tie with Fima Rakhinshteyn
at the "Russian"
Chess Club on Bayview on
Saturday. All 3 players from North York won $115 each from
the $770 prize fund with 4.5-1.5 final results.
Roman Golts won $100
for top "expert" for 4th place with a 4-2 final.
The second place Under 2200 prize money was shared by junior Irakli
Vadachkoriya and Warren "Duttonov"
who both scored 3.5-2.5 finals. Stephen Fairbairn
picked up $50 for his Under 2000 class result of 4 wins in the 19-player
Open Section.
Juniors dominated the 13-player Section
II - Under 1600 Class with both David Hier
and Kevin Teh sharing top honours with 4.5-1.5
final scores to split $170 in prize money. The
"second" prize was shared by 4 others including Timothy
Tam, Marc Napoleone, Kevin Leung and Dave
Barber who all scored 4-2 finals to share $50.
The one-day ACTIVE format is very popular with 2 events monthly in the GTA - the regular Saturday Active Series at DCC and the ongoing Actives at the new location of the Scarborough Chess Club. The time control of game in 30 minutes is extremely attractive to those limited to one day of chess (all 6 rounds take about 8 hours to play including a lunch break). The next event at SCC is March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) while the next DCC Active will take place on Saturday, March 24th.
The Toronto Class Championships are quickly approaching - March 9, 10 & 11 - the start of "March break" at the Best Western Primrose Hotel in downtown Toronto.
