JURA OCHKOOS WINS 34 PLAYER HALLOWE'EN
ACTIVE @ DCC - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2000
FIDE Master Jura Ochkoos continued his
domination at the Dutton Chess Club on Bayview with his
third straight Saturday
ACTIVE chess championship victory. This
time Mr. Ochkoos was alone in First and won $175. cash from the
$868. Prize Pot that was awarded at the conclusion of the
6-round, 1-day G/30 tournament held in
2 sections. There was a 4-way log jam for
2nd place and the 4 players invloved carved up $375. equally
and they included: Juniors Christian Stevens and Yaaqov Vaingorten, as well as
veteran Masters David
Filipovich and Branimir
Vujic.

The 18-player Under 2000
Section was won by Ted Kret, from
Poland, who scored 5-1 to win $120 First with Rolf
Stoltefuss from Germany a half point behind to win
$50. The Under
1800 Section was won by Tony Verma
who also scored 4.5 to win $58.
The remaining cash went to 3 players who shared the Under
1600 and Under
1400 combined prizes.
The three included juniors Tavish Armstrong and Tim
Capes as well as George Romao. who all
scored 3 points to win $30 apiece. The new Active ratings
from this event will appear on the CFC website
on "Hallowe'en" - October 31st at http://www.chess.ca
