Mike Stroud wins The 1999 "First Saturday ACTIVE" Open Chess Championship at the NEW DUTTON CHESS CLUB ON BAYVIEW 1681 Bayview Avenue – 2nd floor (2 blocks south of Eglinton – above Chess’n Math store) on - SATURDAY, AUGUST 14, 1999   A total of 35 Players came out to support "Grand Opening" week and play 6 rounds of ACTIVE chess at the sparkling new Dutton Chess Club on Saturday, August 14th.  When the dust had settled, Michael G. Stroud, a master from Toronto, was alone in clear first with a 5.5 score to claim the $150 First Prize.  Sami Ademi, a Master who recently arrived from Kosovo, took clear second place with a 4.5-1.5 score to collect $100.  The Under 2200 Class was split by 2 players - Ruperto Frilles and junior Yevgeni Solodar who both scored 4 points and $50 each.   Richard Ruiz was "stepping" all over the opposition in his "new office" at the Dutton Club in the Under 2000 Class to capture $75. first place while Richard Garel took home the second prize of $25.  The Under 1800 Section was shared by 2 players who took home $50 each - including junior Joseph Lentini from Fonthill and Karl Dangberg from Kitchener, Ontario. The top unrated prize of $50 in the Open Section went to Dashnor Hasku, also recently having arrived from Kosovo.   The 16-player Under 1600 category was captured by Guelph University student Aiken Van Spyk who won $75., while Christopher Mitchell and Alexandra Benggawan split second prize of $25.  The Under 1400 Section was shared by Albert Lozano and Frank Min who won $50 each while Isai Berengolts scored the only perfect result of the day to win $35 for top unrated in the bottom section!  A complete crosstable of both sections is following this report.
