MILLIONS OF $$$ DOWN THE DRAIN

ROCKWOOD RESIDENTS will LOSE
33 MILLION

due to
AIRPORT EXPANSION

The Rockwood Homeowners' Association includes 809 townhouse, 154 semi-detached and 1176 detached units, for a total of 2139 units.

According to information provided by Member of Parliament, Albina Guarnieri: "Government studies show that aircraft noise reduces property value by as much as 7.8% or about $20,000 on a house worth $250,000."

Using an estimate of an average value of $200,000 per unit, 7.8% means that Rockwood alone, will lose 33 MILLION in property values.

NOISE UPDATE: The new north/south runway opened on November 28, 1997. The new runway puts aircraft only a few hundred feet above our neighbourhoods.

CITY OF MISSISSAUGA ABANDONS RESIDENTS...

Before the 1991 election, Mississauga Council voted unanimously to oppose construction of a new north/south runway. Shortly after the election this position was changed. Mississauga Council voted to oppose the runway unless conditions were met. To date, seven years later, the major conditions have not been met. One of the conditions was that the Federal Government compensate the City of Mississauga for lost property tax revenue when our homes are devalued because of aircraft noise. The City of Mississauga has refused to provide any assistance for our law suit to stop runway expansion at Pearson.
