Kendra

Sam Zabuto walked through the Caribbean village of…he couldn’t remember the name…it had been so confusing when he heard it had barely remembered it. He was ashamed admitting it to himself…a Watcher should never forget information. He did, however, remember that it was formerly British territory so many of the natives knew how to speak English.

The villagers walked around him as if they sensed evil. He had sensed it too. It was late…the vampires were on the prowl. They were riddled here. But the Slayer was not posted here. Nor could he stay…he did not live here and his training gym was back in England.

He came to a hut and walked in. There was a family sitting with their little girl, they held her in her arms. She couldn’t have been more than four or five. They looked up at him and bowed their heads. He did the same. They trusted him. They knew he wasn’t a vampire.

"I was sent here by the council to pick her up at your request."

"Yes. Thank you. We knew it was imperative that she be sent to train. She has a destiny to fulfill and it is of the up most importance to us," the father said. The Watcher just nodded.

The mother looked at him and said, "Take good care of her."

"I will madam. I promise. She will be perfectly fine. Her name?"

The mother handed him her daughter who was fast asleep and said, "Her name is Kendra."

The Watcher smiled and said, "What a beautiful name. Good bye."

The Watcher exited and left, leaving the parents in the hut alone, full with the knowledge that their precious daughter was destined to be the Slayer. And that she would never know them. The mother bit her lip to keep from crying. She had to be strong for her husband.

Then the vampire attacked.

As long as there have been vampires, there has been the Slayer.
One girl in all the world, to find them where they gather and stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their numbers.
She is the Slayer.

KENDRA

Pilot Episode:
"Evolution of thet Slayer"

Featuring:
Bianca Lawson

She was eight years old now. She was fully able to go about by herself, and was able to feed herself. She’d grown up fast, but to be the Slayer she had to.

She understood everything her Watcher told her and he explained what she didn’t. She was given lessons everyday on math and reading. She had an extensive vocabulary for a girl of eight. She could hold a conversation with an adult if she had to. But she was train not to. The Slayer worked in private.

She was given a stake to learn the feel of it. She would learn to become comfortable with it. Once she was comfortable with the stake, her Watcher explained to her, the more she’d glide when she fought. It would become an extension of who she was-the Slayer.

Her Watcher never let her say "Slayer-In-Training," for she would be the Slayer, it had been prophecized. So he called her Slayer.

Kendra had been given the Slayer handbook. She read from it every night. She read volumes of prophecies and information on various demons. She was to know all she could from them.

Kendra looked out her window in her Watchers mansion/training gym. She was twelve years old now. She’d been training for years. She watched the rain hit the windowsill.

Her Watcher came up to her and said, "What’s wrong Slayer?"

She didn’t answer.

"Kendra…"

She turned to him, she had been crying.

"I’m sorry sir."

"No, it’s quite all right. What has been bothering you?"

She didn’t look him in the eyes. He looked at her standing there with her mocha skin, in her tights, and shirt getting ready to train. He looked at her olive shaped eyes and he knew.

"Is this about your parents?"

Kendra looked to the ground. She was ashamed. A Slayer should never show emotions. Emotions made you weak. "I just wish I could remember them."

The Watcher looked at her and said, "I’m sorry that you don’t."

She looked at him and asked, "What were they like?"

"Kendra…"

"Please sir…I have to know."

The Watcher sighed in defeat and said, "All right, but let this be the last time we speak of them. Remember what I have taught you."

Kendra nodded.

"When I met them they held you in their arms. They looked up at me with love for you in their eyes. They loved you dearly. They loved you so much they gave you up for a good cause. So you could fight the good fight. They knew you were destined for greatness. To be the Slayer."

Kendra looked at him with her chocolate eyes and said, "Thank you sir."

And it ended. They hadn’t discussed it further.

He created an obstacle course for her to go through full of traps, and simulating death scenarios.

He took out his timer, and began.

She entered and with lightning speed she had gotten through all the death "holes" and staked all the "vampires". And finally she finished the race and clocked in at three minute. She had beaten her time again. Each time she did better and better.

Zambuto watched her in amazement; of course he didn’t show it. He looked at her sixteen-year-old body. Her mocha skin was riddled with sweat beads, and he looked into her olive shaped eyes. He saw the Slayer.

"Well done."

"May I go and finish my texts sir."

"Yes of course Kendra."

She walked away. As she picked up her current book was a book of demons from the Nether Realm. As she walked by she heard some laughter. She stopped by her window and looked out. There two girls were giggling together and talking loudly about someone name Christian Slater…"What a strange name," she thought.

She watched them closely…they seemed to be doing something that caused laughter. But they were not doing a thing but talking to each other. They even just looked at each other and giggled even more. This puzzled her.

Zambuto walked in and said, "Kendra what are you looking at?"

"Those girls they are acting peculiar."

"Why is that?"

"Well look at them."

He did he did not see anything strange about them. "There is nothing wrong with them Kendra…they are having fun. They are friends."

"Friends."

"Yes. You’ve heard the term before."

"Yes I have."

"All right enough of this. Get back to your studies. You know the rules."

"Yes sir."

"Friends." She thought.

She sat down but she could not read. She could just think about the word. She had never had a…friend. She wondered what it would be like to have a …friend. She had never had a family either. She just had her Watcher. Mr. Zambuto. But they were neither friends nor family. They were Slayer and Watcher. Pupil and Mentor. Nothing more.

She teared up. How she wished she could have a family and…friends. People to laugh with like those girls. She got angry with herself and wiped the tears away. Slayers didn’t cry. Crying was showing weakness. Showing emotions was a weakness.

She returned to her book and continued studying.

Then her Watcher came in and proudly announced, "Kendra I have some news."

The vampires circled around the couple. The couple was crying out for help…but the vampires liked it when they did that. It only made them hungrier. They especially liked when their food fought back. It gave them a chance to play.

"Don’t worry. Everything will be fine. It won’t hurt…much."

The vampire leaned in to bite the wife, the husband was being held back by the rest of the vampires. Suddenly the vampire crumbled into dust, along with the vampires holding the husband. The remaining vampires looked up and began fighting back. The figure with three swift moves dusted four vampires. The remaining two vampires were afraid, but not willing to give up with a fight. One of them shouted, "Who are you?"

"I am Kendra, the Vampire Slayer," the figure announced.
