Yes, try to get the upgrade, it will probably sort out a lot of your problems.

Yup. Cost me a 5 pound handling charge, and I had it within a couple of days. I did have to send in my chips to get the new OS on - if you want to buy the chips without sending yours back first, check with them to see if they'll do it and how much it would cost. If you are going to send your chips to a foreign country, make sure you pack them well, and insure them.

Yes, it's perfectly user-installable. Open the case, pull em out (gently! - don't bend the legs) and plug the new ones in. No soldering required, it's a pretty easy process. Earth yourself first, and try not to touch things more than is necessary.
