Hi again,

I hope someone can help me with this problem. I'm getting frustrated with it, but I don't want to open my WS for nothing.

Here goes....

I somehow have lost Ram1 and Ram2 and everytime I turn the WS on, it starts at perf 49 DIAG TEST WAVE. I know both of these things are indicative of a crash. When I reload Ram1 and Ram2 via a sysex dump it receives the data fine and I get everything back. BUT, if I turn the WS off for more than a few minutes, Ram1 and Ram2 disappear again like an init has occurred. Does this mean the internal battery is dead? If so, what type of battery is it and what is the procedure to relplace it?

Thanks for any help available,

...Jen

I think so... if you really want to know, go for example to the wave sequence edit page and try to edit one. If your battery is dead, you'll get a message indicating a low battery.

The battery is very easy to replace (I did so on my WS one week ago). Buy a CR-2032 (or DL-2032) lithium battery (used for example in electronic diaries and calculators). Then gently push the old battery towards the center of the board and lift it (don't try to pull it towards the edge of the board or you'll break the plastic holder). Do the reverse operation for the new one and that's it. No soldering necessary.

Hope this helps,

Richard.

Your battery's done. A new one cost me $3 -- it's a common wristwatch battery.

To get at it you have to remove the bottom pan of the Wavestation (if you have the keyboard) or take the case off (if you've got a rack.) In the EX, the pan comes off once you remove an incredible number of screws from the bottom pan.

With the EX in your lap upside down (mind you don't screw up the joystick) with the keys facing away from you, there will be a circuit board with a battery in a plastic clip in the middle near your navel. Take the old battery out, and go to an Electronics Supply store (or perhaps even a drugstore!) and buy a replacement. It would be good if you could remember how the battery was originally oriented, though I believe theirs a '+' or '-' on the circuit board inside the battery holder to help you along.

Aside from having to remove and replace 30 screws (or thereabouts) it's a pretty simple job.

I don't know if the Wavestation trickle charges the backup battery or not, but it's safe to say that if you plan on storing a wavestation for an extended period it would be wise to save sysex dumps of the RAM contents, and plan on replacing the battery when you begin using it again.

Hi Everyone!!!

Thanks to all of you for your help! I got a new battery and everything is back to normal now:-) In case anyone was wondering or for future reference, the battery for the WS EX is #CR2032 lithium (thanks to Nick for this info).

It's very easily replaced just by removing the botom cover, popping it out of its holder and putting a new one in. Also, I was very glad to see the programming lesson. Great Idea!!!

Thanks Again,

...Jen
