This project has really gone to the...
Fitting cowl...
Per plans the cowl is attached to 1" x .125" 6061 -T6 aluminum angle cut to 2" in length. Each of these "plates" is attached to the firewall with 2 #6 x 5/8" countersunk wood screws. The bottom half was installed first by clamping into position on the topmost angles and the temporary "spinner" disk. #4 fasteners were used to temporarily hold the cowl in position prior to sizing and installing the camlocks.
The lower cowl (Rand/Revmaster) unit is quite tight inside and some small modifications were required to the oil cooler and throttle arm to provide clearance. The oil cooler has tabs protruding from the fins, which were trimmed off along the bottom front edge.
The upper cowl required extra material (up to 1" in places) be added along the split line in order to fit symmetrically around the spinner. This was done using construction paper backers taped in place to hold the 4 layers of cloth applied inside the cowl.
Starting to look interesting...
Install fuel selector pushrod (center of panel just above stick). Push in for fuel. Pull to open sock drawer.
