CR-6 was a radical departure as a design since it had two
different concepts rolled into one design, front wheel drive and "center
steering". Front wheel drive offered a design with a shorter chain, but
had problems, like, how do you steer? That's where center steering came in, this
idea was sparked by a picture of the Ecocar 2000 in the 1992 book Richards' Ultimate
Bicycle book. Center steering basically is where the bike bends in the middle to
turn.
On my design the seat was attached to the front end and the handlebars were attached to
the rear. The seat was a seat for a fishing boat. This was the first absolute failure as
the bike was unrideable. But its only saving grace was that it gave me a lot of
practice in learning how to braze with a Mapp torch. In retrospect, my design
failure stemmed from attaching the seat to the front end. Had I done it the other way
around, seat to rear end and handlebars to the front, it may have been rideable.
