CR 17 was built for a mere $500 complete for a friend that
originally wanted a bent that would be placed on a wind trainer as an exercise machine.
But since it wouldn't make sense to build something so specialized I built it as a
complete bike. I did it on the cheap and used lots of recycled bits. It was even painted
with left over paint from other projects. The bike has only 7 gears and is not meant to be
ridden any great distances. The BB slides on the 1.5" square mild steel main tube for
adjustment. The bike uses the seat from CR 10. The only new parts were the front wheel,
the chain, cogset, and crankset. The rear triangle is cro-moly and came from a battered
MTB frame. The rest of the frame is mild steel or hi-tensile steel. The rear wheel is a
26" MTB and the front was a 16" (ETRTO 305). In terms of geometry the bike is
similar to CR 14. Unfortunately I never recorded any of the specs on this bike and these
two photos are the only ones I have of it. The bike was built in the spring of 1998.
