CLOTHREYES TUTORIAL by Dollpartz PAGE 1 1,2,3,4,5 |

| INTRO | ||
| This is a tutorial to make a t-shirt for Posette, using Max and Clothreyes ... . In the future I'll continue with making the shirt conformable. For now tho this is only making the t-shirt! I learnt this stuff trial and error, and refined it. If I spare ya some of the HUGE frustration I went thru, I have done my good deed for the day. To avoid confusion I suggest you follow the tutorial to the letter. Later you can experiment. | ||

| IMPORT | ||
|
Start up Max. Have your viewport setup: TOP, BACK, LEFT, PERSPECTIVE. Import into MAX the posette geometry, an obj file named P4NudeWom.obj, found in yer poser directory, under Runtime\Geometries\P4NudeWoman\.... Make sure you got Files of type Wavefront Object (*obj) selected when you look or you ain't gonna see any obj files. To import an OBJ file like this into MAX you need the HAB obj import/export plug- ins. (footnote *) Easy to find on the net! The settings I use for import are shown. |

| *Leave center pivot unchecked.* The default group you can do without. If your import works, you should see the figure in the TOP view as shown, feet sitting on the grid origin. | ||

| ALIGN | ||
| Select the whole figure. On your command panel, click HIERARCHY icon, and select PIVOT and AFFECT PIVOT only. Click ALIGN TO WORLD. This'll put the center of everything at the feet. Make sure you do this once with Uniform scale selected so the scaling center goes to the feet too. Note how in the picture the red arrows have been relocated at the feet with the pivot. This isn't absolutely necessary for this tutorial but it's good practice, you don't want your model floating around when you scale it. When done, click Modify icon or unselect AFFECT PIVOT ONLY otherwise what you do later may affect the pivot! | ||

| SCALE | ||
| Select the whole figure. Click SELECT UNIFORM AND SCALE button, and then right click same button. When text box opens, enter 10000% in the Offset: Screen box. Why? The posette OBJ model is too small as is to manipulate in MAX easily. This operation makes it 100x larger. When you scale it, the model'll expand outta range of view, so click ZOOM EXTENTS ALL button, which will return everything in proper view. By the way, this is a good time to save your work and spare yourself the effort of importing figures and scaling them, and setting the pivots. Save it now, and next time you want to do any work on Posette, clothes, morph targets, whatever, you simply load P4NudeWomx100.max! * Note the scaling is necessary otherwise the distance between the drop cloth and the object will be covered too quickly and you'll miss all the juicy phases of the collision. | ||
| ISOLATE | ||
| In Top viewport select the body parts: chest, lCollar, rCollar, abdomen, lShldr, rShldr, hip. Hold Ctrl down so you can select more than one. Select EDIT at top menu, and SELECT INVERT. Now you should have all the OTHER body parts selected. Delete them (hit delete key). Whats left should be the parts you will drop the cloth on: chest, lCollar, rCollar, abdomen, lShldr, rShldr, hip. | ||

| (1*** File names for the two plugins are Obj2Max and Max2Obj, both by HAB. You need em in yer plugin directory (at least for Max3 or Max4, dunno if later versions need em) otherwise you can't import OBJ files. If you need em, I can send em to you. But I'm pretty lazy when it comes to people asking me to do their work for em, as you should be able to find em on the net. To import the figure, you need Poser installed, tho I suppose you could practice this tutorial on any figure ... To import, click File, Import, then select file of type OBJ ... move over to yer Poser directory and the object file will be in the geometries directory |
