Our Dear Mother

God gives us each a precious gift
more blessed yes than any other
You sure must know of whom I speak
our own sweet, kind and loving mother
Who nurtures us until our birth
prepares us for our life on earth
Is by our side to show the way
to care for us each living day
So fragile we each seem to be when
first placed on our mother's knee
When first we nestle in her arms
she revels in our simple charms
A great love forms and constant grows
as we just wiggle tiny toes
Our lives could not be any sweeter
or ever seem much more worthwhile
Unless at that one precious moment
we give our mother our first smile
Our mothers they are ever with us
on our good days and our bad
Being very close beside us
should we happy be or sad
From the first day of our birth
and on each new day that passes
Their love for us will constant be
through all the days of our school classes
So when we chance someday to leave her
to set out upon our own
May we ever be real mindful
of the real love we have known
