The Backyard Skating Rink
Alas it's good old wintertime, the snow will fall
and bells will chime
The ice will form on lakes and rivers
giving some of us the shivers
While children dressed in warmer clothing
will in the snow go dashing, roving
They sure will find fun things to do
not stand and freeze as grownups do
For summertime has passed us by
gone are the warm days of July
The winter is a whole new story
Jack Frost is out in all his glory
The time has come now I should think
to plan our backyard skating rink
One of the very best of places to bring
warm smiles to sweet young faces
Just think of all the happy sounds of children
skating round and round
Enjoying life without a care
their voices ringing in the air
Life could no better be than this
this really is too good to miss
Til' that sad moment they all dread
when suddenly, it's time for bed
