To quote the good old Monsignor, "I believe that is a loaded question!" I believe it is really two questions in one. The other question is, "Who do you believe in?" I also believe that the second question is of paramount importance because the answer to the first question depends heavily on the answer to the second one.
To cut the chase, I believe in God. I believe that God is the Creator of the universe, the giver of life and all good things. I believe that everyone and everything in the whole wide world belongs to Him. If I believe that he is the Creator then I have to believe that everyone and everything belongs to Him.
I believe that God is a good and forgiving God who loves us unconditionally. I believe that God wants us to have the best of everything good in this world. As a parent, do you not want your children to have everything that is good? If we as mere mortals are benevolent, why should we expect it to be any less with God our Heavenly Father?
I believe that God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. I also believe that God is a jealous God. This is categorically stated in the good book, see Exodus 20:5.
I believe that God holds us in the palm of His hands and determines everything about us. Before we were born, He formed us in our mother's womb. He knows who will fall in love with you and I long before we started thinking about love. He knew if we would have children and how many we will have. The future of humanity depends on those decisions.
I believe in destiny. I believe that you and I are exactly where God wants us to be, doing exactly what God wants us to be doing at this very moment. I believe that if he wanted us to be anywhere else doing anything else, he could make it happen in less than a heartbeat.
Am I saying that God wants the murderer and the rapist and all the other wrong doers to be exactly where they are doing what they are doing right now? It may sound like that but I don't believe it to be so. As a parent, would you want one of the children you loved and nurtured from birth to be a murderer or rapist? I didn't think so!
I believe that God always knows what is good for us. I believe that He gives us only what we deserve even when we believe otherwise. I believe that more prayers have been shed for answered prayers than for unanswered ones. This is because we ask for things without the benefit of knowing how they will fit into the "big" picture of our lives.
I believe that life is the greatest gift that God ever gave to humanity. Without it, none of the other awesome gifts in life are worth having. I believe in life after death. God promised us everlasting life.
I believe that we are living on the greatest planet in the universe. The last time I checked, there was no other that sustains human life! I believe that we are fortunate to be alive today, during the most exciting time in the history of the world. I believe that today and every day are glorious days. How great it is to be alive!
I believe in love. Without it, humans, God's greatest work will wither and die. I believe that love is second only to life in the grand scheme of things. I believe that love could move mountains.
I believe in music. I believe that music is truly the food of life. I believe that music reaches our very soul and fills our hearts with unsurpassed joy.
I believe that laughter reduces stress and promotes healing. In the late 17th Century Voltaire said, "The art of medicine consists of keeping the patient amused while nature heals the disease."
I believe that no task is too formidable to complete. I believe that if we make a plan and follow it, we could successfully accomplish any undertaking. I believe that we all have what it takes to achieve great things. Dare to dream great dreams. God created us in His own image and likeness!
I believe that being only a little bit better today, than we were yesterday, is the only true measure of success. I believe that if we focus on continuous improvement, a little bit every day, we will one day achieve true perfection. I believe that perfection is the end state, when we have nothing more to achieve and nothing more to give.
I believe that we are all good and somewhere deep down in the deep recesses of our hearts we want to do good deeds and give good things to others. I believe that I too am good and getting better and better every day. That means I also believe that the best is yet to come.
I believe that the best way to prepare for death is also the best way to prepare for life. Put God first in your life. Have faith in Him; trust that He will give you the desires of your heart. Love, respect and care for your spouse and children more than anyone else in the whole wide world. Do your part and leave the rest to God.
Be thankful for the many blessings that God has given to you. Use every penny wisely and keep a few for tomorrow - your retirement or your burial. Pray for a happy and holy death. No one knows when he will die and who will die before or after him. No one knows who will be at his funeral or if he will even have one. Hundreds of thousands of people left this earth during the Tsunami of 2004 without a burial.
