We will never forget them!
Stephen Ramjewan
Remembrance Day

"We thank you for paying the ultimate price so that we may live in peace. We will never forget you!"

Grant O Lord, that they may not have died in vain.

If you have not yet done so, you must read "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae of Guelph Ontario, Canada. He died on January 28, 1918 while on active duty in France.

Why We Wear Poppies ...

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
Robert Frost, poet (1874-1963)

This special poem was written together with my eight-year-old daughter Nicole when she was a Grade 3 student at Monsignor Lee School. It was written in November 2005 for the 60th anniversary of Remembrance Day and published in the Orillia Packet & Times on Saturday, Sep30, 2006.

More of her work is available online at Easy Learning and Fun With Numbers.

The poppies that we wear
Show how much we really care
For those who gave so much
To make it safe for us.

It was sad to see them go
That was a nasty blow
They promised to return
But never made it home.

They paid the highest price
To make our country nice
And even though they're gone
We remember them this morn.

The poppies that we wear
Reminds us with a tear
To treat each other fair
As they're no longer here.

Some of my other poems were awarded the prestigious Editor's Choice Award and are hosted by the International Library of Poetry.
