Sylvester Falls In Love - Part 2 ...
Syl noticed a pack of playing cards under the counter. He asked Amy for it and gave her four cards with instructions to secretly write a different type of dinner on each card.
Her favorite is Seafood. She wrote that on the first card, Italian on the second, Greek and then Thai. She stacked the cards face down on the counter. He took another card, wrote Chinese on it, added it to the stack of four cards and asked her to put them in one of her shirt pockets.
Syl gave her four new cards and asked her to write one of her favorite cities on each card. She wrote Barrie on one, Toronto on another then Montreal and Ottawa. He took another card, wrote Tobago on it and asked her to place those cards in the other shirt pocket.
Just then, a young lady selected the smallest balloon and sure enough, it had the ticket for the trip to Jamaica. Amy gave Syl a high five and then said, "You lucky devil, I have to buy you dinner."
After all the congratulations, the DJ played a popular song and everyone went to the dance floor. Syl and Amy embraced each other as if they were the only people on the floor.
They were so excited about having dinner together that they went to the bar before the end of the song to see where they will be going. He asked her to place the cards for the type of food on the counter, face down.
As the winner, he had first choice. He placed his glass on one card and started turning over the others one by one. "We're not having Italian, Chinese, Greek or Thai." After a short pause, he said, "We're having ... Seafood."
Amy quickly placed the second set of cards on the counter; it was now her turn to choose. She placed her glass on one card and was about to turn over the others.
Syl cupped her hands in his and said, "In fairness to you, I must tell you that the city on my card is out of the country. If you choose that card, you are free to choose another one." She looked at him lovingly, flashed her charming smile and said, "I hope to choose that one."
As Syl released Amy's hand an older lady came to the bar and ordered a drink. Amy could hardly wait to get back to the cards to see where they'll be going for dinner. The customer asked, "What are you two doing over there with those cards?" Amy replied, "It is a strange new game and I'm so excited!"
The customer smiled and said, "I could see love written all over your pretty face and he's so handsome. Don't let him leave here without you." Amy blushed and said, "I'm working on it."
The customer tipped her glass and returned to her friends. Amy hurriedly turned over the first card and said, "We're not going to Toronto or Ottawa or Montreal or Barrie." Without turning over the last card, she made a fist and shouted, "Yes! I got it!"
Amy leaned over the counter, hugged Syl and whispered, "We are going away together." She then flipped over the card and announced, "We are going to ... Tobago!"
With a quizzical facial expression, Amy asked, "Where in the world is Tobago?" Syl triumphantly replied, "I hope you have a valid passport because it is in the Caribbean, about 10 degrees north of the equator." She said, "You bet and I'm ready to go."
Now that the trip to Jamaica was awarded, the dance floor was almost bare as those who came to the costume party were leaving in small groups. The Master of Ceremonies climbed onto the counter and started dancing to the very popular song "Who Let The Dogs Out." Some people stayed behind to enjoy the spectacle.
Syl glanced at his watch and could not believe his eyes. It was already after midnight and he was scheduled to do a presentation at a shareholder's meeting at 8 o'clock the next morning. He quickly explained his situation to Amy, gave her his business card and asked her to call him.
She looked at the card and said, "Regional Bank Manager! Interesting!" She then wrote her home phone number on the back of the card and gave it back to him saying, "You call me tomorrow -- I'll be waiting."
Amy walked with him to the door, opened it and said, "Drive safely, I'll be waiting for your call." Syl walked through the door, held Amy's hand and gently pulled her towards him. She hesitated at first and then hugged him for a quick goodnight kiss.
He leaned over and whispered into her ear, "I wish we were going home together tonight." She replied, "I would love to go with you but this is much too fast for me and you've got a big day ahead of you." That brought him back to reality and he started across the parking lot.
She stood there admiring him from behind and felt like shouting ... wait for me ... but decided against it. After a few seconds, he disappeared around the corner of the building and she turned to return to her work.
As she came through the door, a lusty round of applause from the staff startled her. Jenny, her roommate and best friend, hugged her and said, "We've been watching you all night and I can't wait to hear every detail."
Amy whispered, "He's a Regional Bank Manager!"
"Yeah right! He's a bank manager and I'm a millionaire."
"I'm not joking, did you not see me reading his business card?"
"I did! ... You're not kidding!"
With a broad smile Amy said, "We are going to dinner!"
"That's it! Dinner!"
"We are going to dinner in the Caribbean!"
Jenny squealed with delight, hugged her and said "Oh, I'm so happy for you. Can I go too? Just kidding, please bring back lots of pictures."
By that time, most of the customers were gone and the boss ordered a round of drinks for the staff to celebrate Amy's special evening. The DJ played the tune "My boy lollipop, you make my heart go giddy up" and Amy blushed as they gathered around her and moved to the dance floor. They made a toast to her happiness and she thanked them for their friendship.
Meanwhile, Syl was still driving home and thinking only of Amy and the events of the past few hours. He kept reliving that sweet goodnight kiss at the door, as he was leaving the party.
Amy moved towards the bar and said, "Come with me folks, the next round is on me!" While Jenny served the drinks, Amy hugged the boss and said, "Joe, you are great guy. Thank you for celebrating this special evening for me." Everyone sounded their agreement with a lusty round of applause.
Lifting her drink, Amy said, "Thanks to each and everyone of you for your valued friendship. Let's enjoy this drink and head home for a good night's sleep."
Amy and Jenny share a small two-bedroom apartment about twenty minutes away. While driving home, Amy excitedly shared the details of the special good night kiss at the door and Syl's invitation for her to go with him.
Listening as a true friend, Jenny realized that Amy was much too excited to retire for the night. When they walked into their apartment she ushered Amy to the couch and said, "You wait here, I'll be right back!"
Jenny disappeared into the kitchen and returned with two cups of hot tea. She gave one to Amy and said, "I want to hear every little detail. Start from the very first moment!" It was almost 2:15 AM when Jenny went off to bed.
Amy remained on the couch reliving the experience of being pulled through the door for that sweet goodnight kiss followed by the sight of him walking across the parking lot. She fantasized about following him to his car and leaving with him.
When the phone rang the next morning, it felt as if she had just gone to sleep but according to the clock on the wall, it was already 7:30 AM. She answered "Hello Syl, how are you?"
"How did you know it was me?"
"Because none of my sane friends will risk phoning me at this time of the morning."
"Well, I just wanted to let you know that you owe me a good night's sleep."
"Why?"
"Because I did not get any sleep last night ... I could not get someone out of my mind!"
"Well, that makes two of us because I did not get much sleep either. Where are you now?"
"I'm in the boardroom for my meeting and the others are walking in, I'll call you later."
"Bye Syl, I'll be waiting."
That brief phone call worked wonders for Amy, she smiled, rolled over and slept like a baby. At about 10:30, Jenny knocked on her door and said, "Come on Amy, time to get up, we have appointments with the hair dresser in an hour." Amy jumped out of bed and got dressed.
After their appointments, they stopped at the mall for lunch before returning home. The phone rang as they walked through the door. Syl said "I could get a few days off from Thursday this week, can you arrange the time off?"
"This week!"
"Is it too soon for you?"
"No, no ... that's OK, call me at work tonight, anytime after 6 o'clock and I'll let you know. How did it go today?"
"It went really well; the future looks great ... as exciting as ever! I'll call you later."
Amy turned to Jenny and said, "I hardly know him and I'm a little scared to go away with him."
"He's young and handsome, if you don't go with him, I'll go. Just give me twenty four hours notice."
"OK, OK, I'll go."
"Don't worry, you are very pretty and he's definitely in love with you. This could be the answer to all your dreams."
"Easy for you to say, I don't have anything special to wear."
Jenny smiled and said, "You may not need too much to wear."
Amy requested the time off as soon as they arrived at work. Joe approved it without any questions and Jenny shared the details with the staff. They all had advice for Amy.
"Get a new swimsuit, the one you have is too old fashioned ... even for my grand mother."
"Bring lots of suntan lotion."
"Don't forget your shorts and sunshades."
Jenny stepped forward and said, "That's enough! We'll go shopping tomorrow morning and Amy will have everything she needs for the trip."
At 6 o'clock everyone casually gravitated towards the telephone, waiting for it to ring. When it did, Jenny answered it, listened for a moment and replied, "Hi Mary, he is very busy now, can he call you after 7:00 PM?"
"Why so long, what is he so busy doing?"
"He is meeting with some new staff."
"What new staff?"
"Bye Mary, he'll call you later!"
The phone rang again. Jenny listened for a moment and said firmly, "Mary, he will call you as soon as he is finished. Bye now!" Continued ... see [Part 3]
