History
JOS Records is the record label that was formed by John Scott
to release his own soundtrack scores.
JOS was started in the late 1980's by John Scott. At the time, he
was shopping his score for Winter People around to
various labels in the hope that a release on CD could be
arranged. The score was performed by 8 musicians and a re-use fee
had to be paid in order to release a CD of the music. All of the
labels said that they weren't about to pay the re-use fee (even
for only 8 musicians). One label said that they would release the
score, but only if John paid the re-use fees himself. If he had
to pay the re-use fees himself, then why shouldn't he just
release the score himself? And that's just what he did! At the
time there was also a theme park by Jacques Cousteau where it
would have been possible to sell the Cousteau CDs at the theme
park; that didn't work out, but as a result the film music world
has some excellent CDs. In general, 1000 CDs are initially
pressed and more are reprinted as demand warrants.
Please support JOS Records -- they are one of the good guys!

Where To Purchase JOS CDs
In general, JOS CDs aren't widely available through the
traditional record stores. If you wish to purchase a JOS CD try
one of the soundtrack specialists. The following should have any
JOS CDs that are available (I've had nothing but great
experiences with Intrada and SAE):
For other companies, consult www.filmmusic.com.
Brown CDs
Many early pressings of JOS CDs suffer a bronzing. If this is affecting you, then you want to get some replacements.
