Advertising Appetizer

My initial writing sample is this colourful image ad I 'whipped up' for a prestigious Toronto catering company called Catering a la Carte. My client was Glenn Griffin and Friends. Note the active heading to go with the visual. Copy consists of one paragraph, which you can read if you click on the link below.

Informed About Technology

Though I'm not a technical writer, I'm often asked to write about Information Technology. Ward Associates (as they were known then), were leaders in the field of I.T. staffing. Over several years, working with Glenn Griffin and Friends, I developed concepts and regularly wrote generalized copy for them about the I.T. industry. The ad shown here (with job listings not shown) is one of a series of ads that ran frequently in newspapers such as The Globe and Mail and Toronto Star. If you look closely, you can read the body copy, but it's not essential to read that.

He Writes,

He Scores!

Something of a labour of love for me as a hockey fan. The opportunity to create a concept to promote CBC Hockey Night in Canada when it went to showing two games on Saturday nights. This ad concept, suggesting the time zones that make it possible for Canadians to watch 6 hours of hockey, was done for Richard Smerdon and Associates. The ad ran for several months in Marketing Magazine.

Suitable Newsletter Sample

"SuitSmart" is shown here to represent all the newsletters I've written. J.O.S. Written Word Services can write and coordinate the editorial content of your newsletters. "SuitSmart" was a newsletter specifically targeted to customers who had purchased a suit at Eaton's. There is no need to try to read the editorial content here. Just note the 'suitably' seasonal (Fall) heading.

Positive Publication

If I have a claim to fame as a writer it's as editor of a publication called "Yes You Can". I wrote virtually all of every issue. Though I don't own a home of my own, I became an 'authority' on home improvement.

"Yes You Can" was produced by Glenn Griffin and Friends, for Lansing Buildall Stores. It featured 'how to' articles while promoting Lansing stores.

Eight issues of "Yes You Can" were produced. The two issues shown here demonstrate the 'pun' headings and cheerful, helpful tone of the publication.
