Imagine creating advertising material that people would 'collect' like sports cards! That was my idea here.

Prenco is a distributor of automotive parts. They like to do image advertising rather than showing products.

The "Automotive Aftermarket All-Stars" attempted to turn items like brake pads into sports heroes. It was part of a larger incentive promotion that required a lot of other writing beyond the cards.

This promotion was written in association with "The Right Words" for Kamdar Studios.

It was a promotion that lasted a year and 12 of these cards were produced. I can only show two here (front and back). Click on the link to read the 'pun-filled' sports card/auto parts copy on the back.

 WRITING SAMPLE #7: MISCELLANEOUS BROCHURES

Covering the Brochures

Brochures are what I'm most frequently asked to write. They come in all sizes and serve all sorts of purposes. It would be very difficult to properly reproduce a brochure online in a way that people could read the body copy. Instead I have chosen to show 4 brochure covers. These and other brochures could be seen and read during a meeting.

1. LCC COMPUTERS. Corporate brochure for an I.T. company doing computer upgrades.

2. COFFEE DISPLAY. Elaborate brochure about display systems for selling coffee in supermarkets.

3. DOCK WALKS. Informational brochure for a computerized system of shoe insoles developed by foot doctors. The brochure accompanies displays in shoe stores and malls.

4. CRANBERRY MARSH COVE. Promotional brochure for a Muskoka resort. Note the slogan "Making Your Muskoka Vacation Refreshingly Different"

This sample is shown to represent the kind of 'routine' promotions that J.O.S. Written Word Services can do, where product information, prices and retail selling copy are required. Client confidentiality prevents me from showing current promotions. This 6-page, quarterly sales flyer for Superior Propane was done a few years ago for Campbell & Michener. It was part of a larger promotion, which also included radio spots. Note the seasonal theme here ("House Warming").

This very generalized Canadian Tire ad, which appeared on the inside cover of a local directory publication, is included here to represent my early years (13 of them) as a retail copywriter, with Canadian Tire during the 1980's, and before that with Consumers Distributing. I wrote thousands of flyer and catalogue pages, (which I don't think anyone wants to see here). My retail years demonstrate high volume production writing and broad general merchandise experience.

"Moose Prints" is a book celebrating Toronto's hugely successful outdoor 'moose sculpture' exhibit in the summer of 2000. It's a pictorial 'coffee table' book, but there is some writing in it. Most of the words were written by my friend and associate David Mills (Millennium Communications). Sometimes on big projects like this, he uses my services. Here, my 'anony-moose' contribution was 11 short but creative copy blocks. "Moose Prints" is available in many bookstores.
