VINYL RESTING PLACE

SALES INFORMATION

 WHAT'S IN THE COLLECTION?

The collection spans music from the early '60s to the late '80s. Of the 800 records, the vast majority are Rock 'n Roll. There are also some 'Folk' albums and some R 'n B. You will even find a few classic comedy albums. Included are many well-known recordings by famous artists such as: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. There are, I believe, some rarities. And, I admit, a few truly obscure recordings by artists nobody has heard of. It should also be noted that the collection contains records by artists only known in Canada.

The count of 800 is only titles. Considering numerous double albums, there are actually many more than 800 records.

 TURNTABLE ALSO AVAILABLE

Need a functional turntable to play these records if you buy them? Need a reliable backup turntable? Maybe you know another vinyl collector who needs one. Maybe you're a record dealer who could sell it in your store. Though seldom used since CD's came in (1989), it works now as well as it ever did. It's a Dual Model 721 Electronic Direct Drive turntable. The stylus was replaced just before I switched to CD's and has had very little use. It's worth as much as $100 but if I get what I consider to be a good price for the records; I will include the turntable.

THE LISTS. WHY THERE ARE TWO

It was a lot of work to create the list. And difficult to decide what information to include. The limitation was that had to be printed out (widthwise) on a single page. My initial decision was to leave out the record company catalogue numbers. Later I decided that was essential information and created a secondary list.

List A is for music fans who simply want to enjoy hearing these songs. In addition to Artist, Title, Label and Year, it includes 'Hits and Notes' and sometimes comments about each LP.

List B is for serious collectors and dealers. Instead of 'Hits and Notes', it includes Record Company Catalogue Number and 'Book Price'. Please note the 'Book' price here is not the asking price. It is merely a guideline as to relative rarity and collectible value according to a reference book. The 'Book' in question is "Goldmine Price Guide to Collectible Record Albums". (5th edition.) By Neal Umphred. Mr. Umphred's book was very helpful in the creation of this web site.

 CONDITON OF RECORDS

All these records are used. Some were played a lot. I don't believe there's anything here that could be classified as "Near Mint" condition. On the other hand, I believe most fall into the category of "Very Good" condition. Some may be considered only in 'Good' condition. Obviously I couldn't play all 800, but, in the course of doing this web site, I played approximately 30 of them. I encountered one slight warp and a few 'pops' but everything was playable and enjoyable. Please see note in next section regarding covers.

 ORIGINAL COVERS AND INSERTS

I realize that collectors collect the covers (and packaging) as much as the vinyl itself. All 800 records are in their original covers and all still look pretty good considering their years. There could possibly be a poster or two missing, but I believe virtually all the original inserts and other packaging and gimmicks are still in each album sleeve. This includes lyric sheets, posters, booklets and even the paper panties on Alice Cooper's "School's Out" album.

Unfortunately I have to say that a handful of the earlier album covers are slightly damaged with writing on them. As a kid, I foolishly (in retrospect) had my name on them. If you are concerned about this, please ask about it.

 HOW THEY CAN BE SOLD

AND WHO MIGHT BUY THEM

My preference is to sell these records as a complete collection -- averaging out the rare and valuable with the relatively common and the more or less worthless and arriving at a fair price per record for all 800. However, if the price is right, I will consider selling individual titles.

Because of the size of the collection (800 records take up a lot of space) and the general fragility of vinyl, I would rather sell the collection to someone in the Toronto (Canada) area. That way, safe transportation of the records can be arranged. Also, the 'Canadian Content' of the collection makes it more marketable in Canada. I would like to avoid the complexities of shipping all these records, but if the price is right and shipping costs are covered, I will consider that.

I want to sell these records to someone who appreciates their importance (to me) and is knowledgeable about their collectible value. Perhaps some private collectors may be interested in acquiring a complete collection. Perhaps you had a similar collection once and somehow lost 'custody' of it over the years and would like an 'instant replacement'. However, these records would most likely be purchased by a collectible record dealer. I believe they can be sold at a reasonable price that would enable dealers to resell them for a worthwhile profit.
