About Us

Welcome to Shepherd Hills, home of RaShand reg'd Kennels, a small hobby farm just outside of Lacombe, Alberta. I, Shelly Hand, and my husband Randy Hand, have been showing and breeding dogs since 1991 when we started our kennel with Wirehaired Pointing Griffons. We raised and bred them for 11 years; we titled many dogs in conformation, obedience and agility. We had the #1 WPG in Canada in 1996 and the 1st WPG to make it on the Superdogs team.

I acquired my first Aussie in 2000 and totally fell in love with the breed. Randy has always loved the German shepherd and purchased his 1st GSD in 1998. I started teaching classes for the Red Deer Kennel Club and when the building closed we decided we needed a place to train and built our own agility field. We dug out a 10, 000 sq ft agility field on our property last year and have hosted many classes in agility and obedience. Randy and I have been teaching agility for eight years and obedience for six.

Five years ago I had a vision of doing agility demo's with my dogs and the outstanding agility students I had been teaching so I founded the "Hot Diggity Dogs Agility Demonstration Team". We have been active in the small communities around Red Deer in doing demo's for Rodeo's, fairs, schools and nursing homes. We have progressed from just doing a small demonstration to doing skits and funny acts. People are always amazed at what dogs are capable of doing, whether it is to run fast relays or pick up their toys and put them away. We are always teaching our dogs new things.

I have been the Provincial Evaluator for the St. John Ambulance Therapy Program, and have also been a member in good standing with the Red Deer and District Kennel Club for eight years; currently I am the show director for the club and have held various positions in the past. After giving up the Presidency to my husband on the HDD team I am presently the chief choreographer and head a team of wonderful individuals.

Randy is a NADAC agility judge and a fine competitor with his Shepherds. Although he has competed in the conformation and obedience rings his love is agility. Randy currently competes in Agility at the Elite level in NADAC and CKC. Randy has been an active member with the Red Deer & District Kennel Club for 6 years and has held the positions of Vice-President and Obedience Director. He currently is the President of the Hot Diggity Dogs Agility Club.

Both our daughters are also very active in the dog sports and train and run their own dogs.
