LAST MINUTE NEWSLETTER

Hello Teams,

Here are a few last minute details about the race.

CHECK-IN
Check-in will begin at 6:15 at the back of Kilbride School (map).  There is plenty of parking available in front and at the back of the school.  The race starts at the back of the school.  When you check in, you will only receive your bib.  You will be given the rest of your kit once you cross the finish line.

EARLY START
Because this is such a difficult race, we offer an early start at 7 am.  Runners must reach the Appleby turn-around by 11 am to guaranteed aid on the remainder of the course.  Please either let me know before August 15th, or inform the registration official on race day your intent to start early.  Early starters are eligible for all prizes except 1st overall male and female.

COURSE MARKING & CONDITIONS
Part of the test is that there is very limited marking other than the Bruce Trail blazes.  Following the leader is not always the best practice at this race.  There are no km markers except kilometer 32, which is well marked.  We are disappointed to announce that due to the extreme heat this summer, the water level is very low at the river crossing.  The Creek is 15 ft across and just above ankle deep.  Changing socks at start/finish area is recommended.  You are garenteed  to get  a soaker or two.  The deer flies and a pain.  Do not shampoo your hair in the morning and bring a HAT to keep the bugs off.  A pinned fleecy sheet to your hat is an effective tool to swart these beasts.

TRAIL ETIQUETTE
This is an out-and-back along narrow single track trail.  Slower runners must yield to faster runners.  Please announce your intent to pass someone by announcing "passing on the left/right."  Do not litter.  Litterers will be disqualified and banned for life from the event.

SUPPORT
There will be 7 aid stations on-route.  Each will have Gatorade and water, and some will have cookies and other hard fuel.

TEAM COMPETITION
Each participant is assigned to a team as entries are received.  The Team Captains are the first and second race entrants.  The team with the overall lowest time will win the Team CompetitionTimes will be for all participants finishing before 12 pm.  Each participant will be given a temporary tattoo to identify team membership.  Team Niagara will have white bibs, and Tobermory will have green.  Last year Team Niagara led by Captain Hans Maier defeated Team Tobermory.  However, this year's Tobermory Captain, Alex McComb was out for the training run in July, gaining valuable course knowledge.

TRAIL QUIZ (KIDS RUN)
New!  The 1st Annual Iroquoia Trail Quiz is a free event. Start is 10 am sharp.

RESULTS & AWARDS
Results will be posted at the start/finish area.  Awards will begin at 12 pm.  Results will be posted on our homepage by Sunday.

VOLUNTEERS
The race would not be possible without the hard work of the volunteers.  If you know of anyone who would like to volunteer, email me.  Be sure to thank the volunteers along the route.  Make sure you give back to the community by volunteering at a race this year!

You are days away from putting your training to the test.  We hope you enjoy the race as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
