Short Post Race Report 2001
WOW! What a finish!!!!
The 2001 Iroquoia 32 km Trail Test is now complete. Talk about outstanding efforts by all. Everyone who went to our start line is a champion. The weather was just about perfect. High of 25 C under slightly overcasted skies but high humidity in the trails made this test very challenging.
First and foremost. Thanks to all the volunteers, fans and supporters of the TEST. Together we have provided another top level event.
New this year was a loop course change and the now less intimidating creek crossing. It seemed that everyone attacked this portion fearlessly. We also had the First ANNUAL Iroquoia 250m Trail Quiz for kids. I wish you runners could have seen the kids in action. Check out the pictures on line. Outstanding!!.
New gift prizes and of course MORE ROCK MEDALS!!!. A fitting reward for all who take the test.
Redemption was the order of the day as Team Captain Alex McComb and his fellow Tobermorians are able to now call themselves Team Champions as they took the coveted TEAM CHAMPION ROCK back from the pesky Niagarians captained by Mark Mannering. Winning by a measly 9 hour time advantage.
The Men's overall race for first was a two way battle and a sprint finish. Burlington's Bill Schnurr was edged by a speedier Patrick Shrybert breaking last years time by nine minutes. Finishing a close third was consistent Matthew Hodge. Robin Hutchinson, a former McMaster University X- Country star originally from Brantford, who now hails from Ohio also beat last years record time, finishing fourth.
The women's results were skewed and delayed. Under a cross reference to the turn around point at Applyby Line, some adjustments were made to the overall placing results. First place overall was a former top three finisher, Barb Freisen who is now looking to take on some oreinteering. She was closely followed by school teacher Stefanie Grahame and Aine O'Flynn, a top five runner from last year.
Many draw prizes were given out. Lots of ROCKS again. Space Pops greeted each runner at race end and were welcomed rewards. Thanks for your patience as the award ceremony was delayed.
Our Special Request.
To help give a better picture of the battles that took place on the course, please be kind and write us a paragraph, tell a tale about your TEST 2001 and we will put them on a stories page on this site.
