Problems in Space

Omeric returned back to the department and walked into his captain's office.

"I'm done with the case."

"I told you that the last time you told me about it. It seems you've been leading around some of the boys from the government on a wild pooch chase," said the captain.

"Yes sir. And if you want my badge I'm willing to give it to you ..."

"Don't give me all that overdramatic crap. Just keep your nose clean and get out there and do your job. You're a good cop, you've always been a good cop. You were in over your head. The government guys have most likely forgotten about it, I suggest you do the same."

"Yes sir," said Omeric, though he knew that he never would. He didn't like loose strings being out there on a case of his. And this hurkle case was full of loose strings.

A few years later Omeric retired from the force. At his party he got a gift from Ed. It was the deed to the his house in the country and a note. The note said that he had gone out to look for his hurkle. Omeric knew once he and Elsie got out into the country, more precisely out into farming country, that he wouldn't be going back into the city any time soon. It would take something pretty special to get him back.

Chapter 19

Omeric reflected on that last bit of memory from so long ago. Yet here I am about to re-enter a city I swore I'd never step foot in again until I had avenged and solved the mystery of that hurkle. He thought about Jupie and her missing hurkle. Maybe its time I did just that.

Earl stepped off of the shuttle as a steward-person smiled and waved bye-bye to the passengers. The waiting room a the shuttle landing of Trite-El were packed with people. Some waiting to greet relatives or friends, some for business and still others were just there looking at the people gawking at the surroundings. Earl was there trying to find out what was wrong with the space program.

Earl needed to get to the main facility for space flights, there he could look at the paper copy of the schedules. Maybe then he could find out what was going on. But first he needed to pick up the hurkle. He and the hurkle stepped outside and hailed a traveling craft. The ride to the main space facility took two minutes.

"Here we are sir," said the driver.

"But we just went next door," said Earl.

"You did want the Ert Space Facility of Trite-El didn't you?"

"Yes."

"This is it," said the driver.

Earl paid the driver and got out. On a sign in front of the building was the emblem for the department of space and in big black letters was the name of the main facility for space flight, THE GOOBLAM MAIN SPACE FACILITY. Earl smiled, for once something was making sense. What better place to put the space facility than next to the space port.
