Arieadnne magically projected her voice into her commander's heads, telling them to attck. The soldiers rushed into the city through the raised gates. They were met by a few defenders who quickly fell beneath the force of the attack. More defenders came down from the walls and the fighting got messy.

The defenders from the wall had the upper ground but were hard pressed by the suddenness of the attack and the ferocity of the attackers. Commanders scrambled to rally the defense. Moving troops to the stairs that gave access to the wall, trying to bottle up the invaders.

Parts of Arieadne's army broke off and moved through the city taking out pockets of resistance while the main battalion took the wall. They met little resistance. The fog was lifting as bands of 10 to 20 Arieadne's soldiers roamed the streets. They could feel the eyes of the townspeople looking at them through barred windows and locked doors. Yet few physical attacks occurred. The biggest skirmish was reported near the palace, where the army encountered a mass of fleeing guards. Many surrendered though a few wished to face death with steel in hand.

Near dusk the city was firmly in Arieadne's and thus the Jackaar's hands. Arieadne's gift to the DarkImage was beginning to take shape.

Scourge and Greytan slowed their horses as Tellar motioned to them.

"We're not alone here," he whispered.

"Have you been able to see them yet?" asked Scourge.

"What are they doing? Why are we just stopping here? " asked Greytan.

"We're trying not to walk into a trap if we can avoid it," said Scourge to Greytan, "It looks like they are content to just watch us for now who-ever they are so I suggest we just keep looking for the girl and let things be."

"Normally I'd agree with you Scourge but her tracks end here," said Tellar.

"Damn," he swore, "I swear this girl was put out here to torment us. Okay any suggestions?"

"She must be somewhere, it's not like she just magically disappeared," said Tellar looking to Greytan for affirmation.

"Not likely, but something happened here. And odds are that who-ever is watching us had something to do with it," said Scourge.

"Then let's find out where who-ever is watching us is and we'll find the girl," said Tellar.

"Exactly. And we'll do it so that they don't know that they've been found," said Scourge with a small smile.

About an hour after they had set up camp Tellar let them know that their watcher had moved on. They waited for another hour before looking for their watcher. Just as he hadn't been too good at staying out of view he wasn't too good at covering his tracks either. Tellar, Scourge and Greytan were able to follow them right up to the ....

"Gypsies!" said Scourge halfway between swearing and amazement.

"What could gypsies want with a little girl?" asked Tellar.

Greytan and Scourge looked between them. "Anything," they said in unison.

"What now?" asked Tellar.

Scourge was silent for a moment then said, "We get her out."
