Some ideas for the visit of Geoffrey Boughton Smith, bring a photo of your child, dog, house or collage to be painted by Geoff the birth flowers of your family to be incorporated in a special bouquet Anything is possible!
We have found that some stitchers have had difficulty when using blending filament with other fibres at the same time.
From Kreinik comes the following information you will be glad to have at your fingertips.
Every fibre has a different degree of elasticity or tension. When using two different fibre types together of simultaneously, control is essential. In order to achieve this control and insure uniformity in stitching, knotting the Kreinik Metallic Blending Filament on to the needle is recommended.
Cut no more than 18 inches of thread and fold about 2 inches from one end. Insert loop through eye of the needle and pull loop over the point of the needle. Tighten the loop at the end of the eye to secure the thread to the needle by stroking the thread.
1. Loop yarn; pass loop through eye of needle. Leave a short tail.
2. Pull loop over end of needle.
3. Tighten loop at end of eye.
4. Gently stroke the knotted yarn once to "lock" it in place.
If you are caught with only good sewing scissors, and you are working with metallics, cut using the blades closest to the end where the screw is thus saving the cutting edges which can dull very quickly otherwise.
For our travelers we have a marvelous gadget for cutting fibres during travel and it passes security! $15.00.
D.M.C. has a whole raft of new colours - 27 in all - and they are quite lovely.
At last we have found from Zweigart linen twill for crewel. It has taken quite a while, but we now have it in stock and it is everything we hoped for.
Ott lites and magnifiers make a great addition to the room where you stitch and read. I use mine as much for reading as stitching as the natural light gives me such a feeling of relaxation no matter what time of the day or night.
For the cross stitchers and beaders, don't forget the Lo Ran Magnet boards, bead organizer wheel and bead nabber, all "must-have" and inexpensive tools.
