2004 - Still Active
31/03/2004: ZD8I ASCENSION ISLAND -
Ian, G8WVW, and his family are moving to Ascension Island (AF-003) and will be there until June
2008. He has been allocated the call sign ZD8I (Zulu Delta 8 India) and will be active using SSB on
the bands from 20 MHz to 50 MHz. An Icom IC-2KL will be arriving on the island in May 2004 together

Jean-Claude will sign J28JA from Djibouti starting July 18th for the next two years, stay ending on

29/08/2006: 3XD2Z & 3XM6JR BOKE, GUINEA -
Serge/UA6JR (3XM6JR) and Alex/RW3AZ (3XD2Z) will be active again from Boke, Guinea, starting August
29th "for the next few years". They will operate on 160-6 meters CW, SSB and RTTY, plus
PSK and SSTV (3XM6JR). Serge also plans to operate from IOTA groups AF-096 and AF-051 during his

The Stafford (VA) DX Association announces that one of its members (Radar, K2PT) has obtained a
license and will commence operation from the green zone in Baghdad, Iraq, immanently as YI9PT.
Activity will be on 160-10m. There are several other hams in the green zone and they hope this

15/05/2008: M/H.C.'s ST. MARY'S, ISLES OF SCILLY -
Starting the afternoon of May 15th until May 23rd a French team led by Tony, F8ATS will go to St
Mary's, Isles of Scilly. On May 15th (2000z-2230z) they plan to be QRV from Penzance (WW Loc.
IN79JX), and the Lizard Point (Cornwall) lighthouse (ARLHS ENG-068, WLOTA LH-1841), both on 144 MHz
(50W and 2x4el) and 40m (50W with battery and mobile vertical antenna). On May 16th they will take
the boat to St. Mary's Island, Isles of Scilly and they hope to be active the same day, in the
evening. Between May 15th until May 18th, focus will be on VHF and up, using CW and SSB. On the
other days the traffic will be shared HF and VHF and up, from St. Mary's Island (EU-011), and the
Scilly Lighthouse (ARLHS ENG-146, WLOTA LH-0408, WW Loc. IN69UV). End of the expedition on May 23rd,
in the morning. On the way they will be either F5KEE/p or /m and M/F5KEE/p or /m from mainland

(Rino/IT9FXY, Momo/IT9GNG, Enzo/IT9ECQ, Sal/IW9FRA, Mimmo/IW9GTD, Pippo/IW9GNV and possibily
Gastone/I4GAS) will be active as IF9LI on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters using SSB, PSK31 and RTTY,

A Mini Dxpedition to Piel Island (EU-005) by members of the CQ CQ Portable Group, UK, will take
place May 24th and 25th using the special call sign GB0PIA. Operators include John/M0JFE,
Ian/2E0EDX, Brian/2E0OYG, Nathan/2E0OCC, Greg/2E0RXX, Sean/2E0BAX and Liam/M3ZRY. They plan to be
QRV 160m-70cm (no 30m). Of course band conditions will determine which will be used. Equipment will
consist of FT817 rigs with 80w linear for HF and various antenna systems. Various radios for 2m, 6m
and 70cm, with beams and verticals. On 6m they will monitor 50.150 USB and 51.500 USB. On 2m the
frequencies will be 145.500 and 144.300 USB. The 70cm frequency will be 433.500 MHz. Piel Island
lies half a mile (1 km) off the southern tip of the Furness Peninsula in the administrative county

The Grupo DX Teide (GDXT) will be active as EG8FOR from El Hierro Island (AF-004, DIE S-015 for the
Spanish Islands Award) and Orchilla Lighthouse (FEA D-2836, ARLHS CAI-066, WLOTA 2005, WW Loc.
IL07WR, DME 38901) from May 30th to June 1st. The group will dedicate this activation of Orchilla
Lighthouse to Don Carmelo Heredia D.E.P. who was the first lightkeeper in 1933. Operators include

The Union de Radioaficionados Españoles, URE, (The Spanish Amateur Radio League) is proud to
announce a project in East Timor to take place in June 2008, using the call sign 4W6R. URE's
Radiosolidarity Department will organize an Amateur Radio DXpedition, combined with activities to
promote Amateur Radio including the donation and setting up of a complete amateur radio station at

Gianfranco, I6GFX plans an IOCA (Islands of Croatia Award) activity as 9A/I6GFX from June 21-27th.

ACIA-367, CIA-10, MIA MC-074, CLHA-178, TWLHD WLH 9A-077) in Veli Rat, locality Verunic, and will

25/06/2008: CYØX, CYØRA SABLE ISLAND -
A six meter DXpediton is planned for June 25 - July 7, 2008, to Sable Island (NA-063, CIsA NS-004)
by Pete/VE3IKV, Dick/K5AND and Chris/W3CMP. The fixed 6m station in FN93 will use the call sign CY0X
and have 800W to an M2 8 element beam (courtesy of VY2SS) up 40 ft and will be used for CW and SSB
(50.117 MHz USB). A portable 6m station in GN03 will us the call sign CY0RA and will have 100W to an
5 element M2 6M5X yagi up 30 ft (50.155 MHz USB). Other references are: Sable Island - East
Lighthouse (ARLHS SAB-001, TWLHD WLH CY0-001, WLOTA LH-0758, WW Loc. GN03CX) and Sable Island - West
Lighthouse (ARLHS SAB-002, TWLHD WLH CY0-002, WW Loc. FN93XW). Although this is primarily a 6m
DXpedition, they will also be active on 20m and 40m CW/SSB in case anyone needs either of those two

A SIX METER DX-pedition to St. Barthelemy (NA-146, DIFO FJ-001, WLOTA LH-0377) will take place
between June 28th through July 6th GMT 2008 by W7XU Arliss and W0SD Ed. A TO5 call sign has been
applied for and they plan to operate on 50.103 CW and SSB, listening up. They will have high power
(Acom 1000) and a 7 element yagi on a 30 foot boom. They plan to operate the daylight hours and into
the evening. When they are not working people they will be in beacon mode to discover openings. They
have chosen this time of year to coincide with the highest probability of Sporadic E openings to

We are not interested in your grid square and it just wastes time. Our grid square will be FK87nv

A new SX5C DXpedition from the Radio Amateur Association of Greece in end of July 2008 - The

Sotirios/SV1HER and Daniel/SV1JCZ will activate the rocky islet Strogili (EU-001, GIOTA DKS 001)

Cezar/VE3LYC and Ken/G3OCA will activate Finger Hill Island (NA-194) and Paul Island (NA-205),
between July 30th and August 4th. They intend to operate for three days from each island, with two
stations on the air from 40-6m, CW and SSB. Rigs will be ICOM 7000 (Cezar) and TS50 (Ken). Antenna
will be wire GP capable to work 6 to 40 m. Power will be 100W top, but will likely run less in CW
when propagation conditions will permit. These island groups have only been activated once, 14
and 13 years ago, respectively. Since only 6-7% of the IOTA members have them confirmed, both groups
are on the most wanted list. Islands have been checked and confirmed to satisfy IOTA activation

Layang, Spratly Islands (IOTA AS-051), between March 1st and 14th. Activity will be on all bands 10
