01/01/2008: KC4AAA AMUNDSEN-SCOTT BASE -
Helmuth, W6KDX has been active since January 1st as KC4AAA from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole
Antarctica Base (AN-016, AA K-08, WAP USA-21). He is usually active on 20 meters using SSB around

16/06/2008: JT1N & JT4N MONGOLIA -
A research team (Scott/KC0KHA, Dave, Gabor, and Terry) is currently in JT-land on a Mongolian
Vertebrate Parasite Project (MVPP). The team has been assigned two club callsigns for two different
regions in Mongolia. While in Ulaanbaatar they will use the callsign JT1N. In the Gobi region they
will use the callsign JT4N. They were recently active as JT1N from Naran's, JT1BV, QTH and made more
than 90 contacts. Watch 20 meters (14190 kHz after 1030z). Next May in the year 2009, they will be
doing field work in and around the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park in southern Mongolia through

01/12/2008: DPØGVN & DP1POL ANTARCTICA -
The summer season 2008/2009 has begun in Antarctica in November. Torsten/DL1TOG and Felix/DL5XL are
working on the German scientific base "Neumayer II" (AN-016, AA DL-03, WAP DEU-02, WFF
[World Flora Fauna] DLFF-019) and will be QRV as DP0GVN sporadically during their spare time. QSL
via DL5EBE, direct or bureau. The new base "Neumayer III" (AN-016, WAP DEU-08) is still
being constructed and shall replace the old station "Neumayer II" in February 2009. Felix,
DL5XL, will be a member of the first overwintering team on the new base. If his work permits Felix

08/12/2008: HFØAPAS HENRYK ARCTOWSKI BASE -
Janusz, SP9YI is now QRV from the Henryk Arctowski Station (AA SP-01, WAP POL-01) on King George
island (AN-010, WLOTA L-0312) with a new callsign HF0APAS for this years expedition. He should

20/12/2008: 9M2TI WEST MALAYSIA -
Dani, EA4ATI reports that he is working now in Malaysia. He has been issued the callsign 9M2TI and
will be operating from Kuala Lumpur city. Using a vertical antenna with 400 watts, look for Dani to
be active on 40/20/15/10 meters using CW and SSB. He also mentions that he will participate in the
main international contests (like the CQ WPX) from a different location with a better station (yagi
antennas and also dipole for 80m). Dani will stay in Malaysia for at least one year. QSL via his

Ernie, W8EH reports that his brother Steve, W8SMH has just received his Kenyan license. He will
active from Nairobi for the next 3 years. His Kenyan callsign is 5Z4/W8SMH. Steve is on assignment
with the Salvation Army as second in command at their headquarters in Nairobi. His travel schedule
may limit his operating, and he is a rookie at DX operations (So please be patient!). His other
limiting factor is that Nairobi is experiencing power shortages and as a result they are doing
rolling blackouts 2 or 3 days a week in his area. His equipment is an Icom IC-718, dipoles and a

01/09/2009: A9 BAHRAIN ISLAND -
Dave, EI3IO hopes to be QRV shortly from A9, as he is in the process of moving to the Kingdom of
Bahrain from Ireland. He is likely to be in Bahrain for at least 2 years. No callsign info is
available as yet. You may find Dave on 20m from September onwards and he wants to be QRV on 160m for
the 2009/2010 winter season, depending on the time it takes to obtain residency, etc. His QTH will
be on the outskirts of the Manama, Bahrain Island (AS-002, WW Loc. LL56FE), which appears to be good
for all bands 160m to VHF. Dave plans to be QRV on most MF, HF and low VHF bands. However as many of

01/09/2009: P29CW PAPUA NEW GUINEA -
Allan, VK2GR and his XYL Josette will be active as P29CW from Kiunga, in the Western Province of
Papua New Guinea (OC-034, WLOTA L0084, WW Loc. QI03PV) between September and December. Activity will
be only during his spare time because he is there working with "Australian Doctors
International" (ADI - www.adi.org.au/). They will be providing a patrol based medical service
in the Middle and North Fly Districts of the Western Province of PNG. Due to the anticipated work
load and the lack of power in the villages, P29CW is not expected to be active on the many field
trips during this period of operation. The field trips will be on the Fly River by boat and on foot.
Essentually they will be 2 weeks out in the field and one week back at Kiunga. Their license shows

Mike, KE7WRJ, will be in South Korea for over 2 months starting 9 September. He plans to be active
as HL9QST no later than the 11th. His tentative schedule is to operate from 4 different locations in
South Korea as follows: 10-12 September from Seoul; 14-24 September from Camp Casey; 25 September to
18 October from Camp Humphreys; 19-29 October from Camp Carroll; and 30 October to 13 November from

Chris, G0WFH, will be active as VK7ACG from Tasmania (OC-006, WLOTA L0068) between 19 October and

Tasmania. Activity will be on all bands, but he plans to concentrate on the lower frequencies. Chris

24/10/2009: P29 PAPUA NEW GUINEA -
Once again the team of operators Luis/CT1AGF, Derek/G3KHZ, Steve/G4EDG and Hans/SM6CVX, plus
Gordon/G3USR, will activate three Papua New Guinea IOTA islands between 22 October and 9 November.
They plan to operate from Tanga Island (OC-102) as P29VCX (QSL via SM6CVX) 24-26 October; Green
Island (OC-231) as P29VLR (QSL via SM6CVX) 27-31 October; and Woodlark Island (OC-205) as P29NI (QSL
via G3KHZ) 2-9 November. Activity will be on 160-15 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY modes.
Gordon/G3USR will be exclusively on SSB. The team will be using new single band vertical dipoles for

Special callsign YT36QRP will be active 30 October to 8 November as part of the annualy HA QRP

Alex HA7JJS (YU9JJS), Laci HA6NL (YU9NL), Laci HA7PL (YU9PL) and Zsolt HA6PS (YU9PS) to be active on

31/10/2009: XRØY EASTER ISLAND -
Operators Marco/CE6TBN, Leszek/NI1L, Art/PA3C, Zbig/SP7HOV, Stan/SQ8X and Victoria/SV2KBS will be
active as XR0Y from the outskirts of Hanga Roa (Grid DG52gu), Rapa Nui [aka Easter island] (SA-001,
DICE ICE-001 for the Islands of Chile Award) between 31 October and 15 November. Plans are to focus
on 160, 80, 40 and above all 30 meters (CW only, as digital modes on 30m are not allowed). Working
Europe on 30 meters will be their priority during the first week on the island. They will have three
stations with two amplifiers and several antennas. Although SSB will not be neglected, CW will be
the main operating mode, with some RTTY being planned as well. QSL routes: Europe, Asia, Africa and
Oceania - direct/bureau via SQ8X; North, Central and South America - direct/bureau via Rádio

01/11/2009: 5H1HS MON ISLAND -
Harald, DL7VSN, is back in Tanzania again and plans to become QRV after his Kilimanjaro trip around
1st November. He will work on 160m-10m mainly in CW and RTTY running 100 watts with several dipoles.
His callsign should be 5H1HS again. He may also activate another island group for one or two days if
everything works fine with his transportation. Harald hopes to become active also from the Serengeti

as 5W0MR (requested call); then two weeks (19 November to 1 December) from the Otuhaka Beach Resort
on the island of Tongatapu, Tonga (OC-049) as A31IW (DJ5IW), A31JC (DJ7JC), A31LEO (K2LEO/PA3LEO),
A31MR (IK1PMR), A31NN (AA4NN), A31SN (OE2SNL) and A31WL (PA0BWL), including an entry in the CQWW DX
CW Contest (28-29 November) as A31A; and then one week (6-13 December) on the island of Rarotonga,
South Cook Islands (OC-013), minus OZ1IKY, as E51PMR (requested call). From 2-5 December they will
be in Auckland, New Zealand (OC-036, WLOTA L-0069) for logistics, possible activation of some IOTA

Bill, K7MT, will once again be returning to McMurdo Station (WAP USA-22, AA K-09), located on the
southern tip of Ross Island (IOTA AN-011), and be active as KC4USV between 15.Nov.2009 and
20.Feb.2010. Bill states that he will be on the HF bands on 14243 kHz, Sundays at 0000z. He will
also be active on PSK-31 (on 14070 kHz) and CW (14043 kHz) if time permits. Bill has also mentioned
that he will take an Arrow II antenna and his Kenwood TH-7 to work the Amateur Satellites into VK

Fred PY2XB and Alex PY2WAS will activate Cabras Island (SA-071, DIB SP-06) between 19-23 November.
They will use PW2IO (PY2XB) and PW2TA (PY2WAS) calls. They will operate two separate stations
running 300W and 100W respectively. The antennas will be a yagi for 15, 17 and 20m and a multiband
ZEP. The team guarantees that at least one station will be on the air around the clock. Both
stations will work CW and SSB. The main bands to be used are 15, 17, 20, 30 and 40 metres, on IOTA
frequencies. Alternative frequencies may be used if necessary. The team will need to take life
support to the island, including generator and batteries for energy. The landing on the island is

Members of the JTRG will once again be active as W4K from Peanut Island (USi FL479S, Not IOTA, WW
Loc. EL96XS, Palm Beach County), Florida, on 29 and 30 May. Operating from within the cold-war bomb
shelter built for President John F. Kennedy on Peanut Island, this will be THE DXpedition event for
the Palm Beaches and likely South Florida! Buried underground and encased by lead, concrete and
rebar, the DX operating stations will be positioned inside the bunker. However, much like the
communications prior to the threat of a nuclear attack, we'll be reaching out to the world as W4K!
