01/01/2008: EL2DX LIBERIA -
Jim, K8SJP is working in the US embassy, Mamba Point, Monrovia, Liberia, until early 2009. He is
using an IC-725 with 500 watt amp and inverted V's for 10-160m. Jim is working mainly in CW but also
some RTTY and PSK31, SSB only in contests. He is listening for band openings on 160m daily around

Helmuth, W6KDX has been active since January 1st as KC4AAA from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole
Antarctica Base (AN-016, AA K-08, WAP USA-21). He is usually active on 20 meters using SSB around

19/05/2008: TT9/CT1CPP CHAD -
Antonio, CT1CPP is expected to be active starting around May 19th as TT9/CT1CPP from Chad. He should

16/06/2008: JT1N & JT4N MONGOLIA -
A research team (Scott/KC0KHA, Dave, Gabor, and Terry) is currently in JT-land on a Mongolian
Vertebrate Parasite Project (MVPP). The team has been assigned two club callsigns for two different
regions in Mongolia. While in Ulaanbaatar they will use the callsign JT1N. In the Gobi region they
will use the callsign JT4N. They were recently active as JT1N from Naran's, JT1BV, QTH and made more
than 90 contacts. Watch 20 meters (14190 kHz after 1030z). Next May in the year 2009, they will be
doing field work in and around the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park in southern Mongolia through

01/12/2008: DPØGVN & DP1POL ANTARCTICA -
The summer season 2008/2009 has begun in Antarctica in November. Torsten/DL1TOG and Felix/DL5XL are
working on the German scientific base "Neumayer II" (AN-016, AA DL-03, WAP DEU-02, WFF
[World Flora Fauna] DLFF-019) and will be QRV as DP0GVN sporadically during their spare time. QSL
via DL5EBE, direct or bureau. The new base "Neumayer III" (AN-016, WAP DEU-08) is still
being constructed and shall replace the old station "Neumayer II" in February 2009. Felix,
DL5XL, will be a member of the first overwintering team on the new base. If his work permits Felix
will show up using his old callsign DP1POL using CW, SSB and digital modes on HF and maybe also on

Janusz, SP9YI is now QRV from the Henryk Arctowski Station (AA SP-01, WAP POL-01) on King George
island (AN-010, WLOTA LH-0312) with a new callsign HF0APAS for this years expedition. He should

20/12/2008: 9M2TI WEST MALAYSIA -
Dani, EA4ATI reports that he is working now in Malaysia. He has been issued the callsign 9M2TI and
will be operating from Kuala Lumpur city. Using a vertical antenna with 400 watts, look for Dani to
be active on 40/20/15/10 meters using CW and SSB. He also mentions that he will participate in the
main international contests (like the CQ WPX) from a different location with a better station (yagi
antennas and also dipole for 80m). Dani will stay in Malaysia for at least one year. QSL via his

13/06/2009: N8UR BEAVER ISLAND, MI -
Mike/W8RKO, Mark/WD8DPA, and John/N8UR are planning to operate portable from Beaver island (USi
MI-032L, Charlevoix county, Grid locator EN75FN), Michigan, during the June VHF QSO Party (June
13-15th) as N8UR. They will be located at the south end of the island, with a straight shot down 280
miles of Lake Michigan to Chicago and thereabouts. Sunday morning could be particularly exciting if
there is any ducting going on. They will be QRV on 6m-70cm, plus 1.296 and 10 GHz, using CW/SSB/FM.
For 6 meters they be running 100 watts into a 3 element yagi at 60 feet above the water. [N8OFS]
15/06/2009: KB7Q 6M Grid Dxpedition -
Gene, KB7Q and his wife are heading out from Bozeman, Montana, with our RV and activating grids in
eastern Montana and western North Dakota while vacationing. We should have Internet some of the
time, so he will update his site often (www.geneshea.com/). Gene will work as many as possible on
any Es opening up from 50.125 MHz on SSB and 50.099 MHz on CW. FSK441 Ms operating for other times

Loc. CP01OH). Primary frequencies 14.260 and 7.260 MHz (+/- QRM); also 3.960 MHz. This will be a

During the period of June 27th to July 12th the RZ4HZW team will be on an expedition to the Saratov
islands (RIIA RI-64-xx), Saratov water basin. Activation 30 - 40 islands under diploma RIIA (ALL NEW
- ONE) is planned. QRV all bands, but mainly 40 and 20 meter CW and SSB. The will also activate the

28/06/2009: SV GREEK ISLANDS TOUR -
Gab, IK3GES will be starting an island tour on June 28th. He plans to visit the following:
Elafonisos island (EU-113, GIOTA INS-007, MIA MG-033, also count for WLOTA LH-0011); Salamina island
(EU-075, GIOTA SAS-040, MIA MG-098, also count for WLOTA LH-4159); Skyros island (EU-060, GIOTA
NAS-098, MIA MG-115, also count for WLOTA LH-2002); Amoliani island (EU-174, GIOTA NAS-046, MIA
MG-009). Gab will then travel to Turkey, but is not sure if he will activate any islands there.
After Turkey, Gab will team up with Boyan, LZ1BJ and they will activate Sveta Anastasiya island
(EU-181, also count for WLOTA LH-0035). Gab reports that his second island tour will be from Croatia

Experienced DXpeditioner and EME'er Pierre, HB9QQ will be operating from Velighoo (North Atoll) the
Maldives (AS-013, WW Loc. MJ64jh) as 8Q7QQ between June 29th and July 10th, with a 6 element yagi
and 500w overlooking the ocean on his moonsets. The windows look especially good during the last few
days of June for horizon-only stations in the eastern half of the USA, since they will also have
moonrises during Pierre's moonsets and cndx for EME will be very favorable then. Of course, EU

09/07/2009: TO4Gxx GLORIOSO -
One Ham radio team of 3 to 4 military operators along with two reporters from SIRPA are going to
reach Glorioso island (AF-011, DIFO FR-004, WW Loc. LH38PK) by July 9th and will stay there up to
July 28th. The video reporter team has to make several footages and documentaries, the main one
about the DXpedition itself. They are going to work from 160 to 6 meters, in as many modes as
possible. The callsign is currently confidential! The team will use three stations and they will be
welcome by the Foreign Legion. All the equipment is going to be loan by the Provins ARC (F6KOP) team

For the CQ WW VHF contest W4APP will be heading to EM87. EM87, in the cental Appalachian coalfields,
is one of the most needed grids east of the Mississippi. It appears to be the rarest grid in all of
EM. It is characterized by a rural population, rough terrain, and poor road infrastructure. The
operation will take place from the Breaks Interstate Park on the Va/Ky border in between Haysi
(pronounced Hey Sigh) Va and Elkhorn City, Ky. They plan to be on the air no later than the
afternoon of July 17th and plan to be active throughout the contest and throughout the evening on

Members of the NA-128 Contest Group will activate the special callsign CG200I (Charly Golf Two
Hundred India) from Ile Verte (NA-128, CIsA QC-015, Grid FN58) between July 23-26th, including an
entry in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th), to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the
lighthouse (ARLHS CAN-244, WLOTA 1404). Operators mentioned are Frank/VA2RC, Martin/VA2ZO,

24/07/2009: MCØSHL RAMSEY ISLAND -
The Strumblehead DX and Contest group have now sealed the final permission to activate Ramsey Island
(EU-124), off the West Wales coast, from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds who own the
island. They will be active from 18:00 24th July through to 14:00 27th July taking in the IOTA
contest. They will be active using the club call MC0SHL for the whole duration of the operation, and
using MW9W in the contest. They will be on all bands from 80M through to 10M SSB. There is also some
30M RTTY planned by G1VDP if the other guys allow him, with participation in the last 80M Club
Championships DATA section. They will be operational using generators as power. Radios used will
consist of 2 K3's and a Yaesu FT1000MP MkV and amplifiers. Antennas will consist of a Hexbeam, a
windom and dipoles. Most of the activation is for the WAB award scheme as the square is semi rare
and has not been activated for some time. The team will be on from the farm for a few days before
and after using the GB0WFF for the World Flora and Fauna award see www.wff44.com/ for award details,
and using the MC0SHL club call and erecting a tower for Rob MW0RLJ. The island will not only count

David GI4FUM is organising a DXpedition to Swaziland as the result of a request for an amateur radio
station at an International scout camp which will run from July 31st until August 11th. The scout
camp is near to Manzini. It would be their intention to stay at and operate from Hawane Resort and
in addition provide operators for the scout camp on a daily basis. The camp site will use the
callsign 3DA0SS but each team member will have their own 3DA0 callsign. The camp site is about an
hour's drive away. Team members are David/GI4FUM, Tony/G4LDL, Gerry/M0MVV, Michael/NC4MM and
Yuri/UT5EL. During the stay at Hawane there is another DXpedition to Lesotho and team members from

operation from this rare US entity for only a 10 day period between October 9th and 19th, its first

In close cooperation between the DAGOE Foundation, Mercy Ships and 5 Dutch radio amateurs, a new
DXpedition is on its way. The special callsign of the "Benin 2009 Radio Expedition" will
be TY1MS which will take place between October 10-27th from Grand Popo, Benin. Operators mentioned
are Ad/PA8AD, Arie/PA3AN, Henk/PA3AWW and Bas/PD0CAV. As mentioned earlier, the team will also

Jack, N2VW will be active from the VP5JM Hamlet on Providenciales island (NA-002, WW Loc.FL31VS)

22/10/2009: P29 PAPUA NEW GUINEA -
Once again the team of operators Luis/CT1AGF, Derek/G3KHZ, Steve/G4EDG and Hans/SM6CVX, plus
Gordon/G3USR, will activate three Papua New Guinea IOTA islands between October 22nd and November
9th. They plan to operate from Tanga Island (OC-102) as P29VCX (QSL via SM6CVX) October 22-26th;
Green Island (OC-231) as P29VLR (QSL via SM6CVX) October 27-31st; and Woodlark Island (OC-205) as
P29NI (QSL via G3KHZ) November 2-9th. Activity will be on 160-15 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY
modes. Gordon/G3USR will be exclusively on SSB. The team will be using new single band vertical

of Hanga Roa (Grid DG52gu), Rapa Nui [aka Easter island] (SA-001, DICE ICE-001 for the Islands of
Chile Award) between October 31st and November 15th. Plans are to have two stations on the air. They
understand that Easter Island is not on most wanted lists, but there is a demand by some European
