August at Last

August 1st |
The main
house is painted, bricks are completed and trim work has begun.
The house is finally at the lock up stage. The rest of the arch windows are in and really look great. Dale broke it to us that cabinets may be late, temporary cabinets may have to be put in to satisfy banks mortgage requirements. 12 Days until completion |
| August 5th | I have been
negligent in updating this page, we are getting ready to move and the time
has just flown by.
Dale confirmed that temporary cupboards will be with us for about 10 days after we move in. Ruby met with Dave and picked out the siding for the cantilevered bathroom. Tomorrow, my Dad and I start building the deck off the great room. We are saving about $3500.00 by doing it ourselves, so I guess I will have to deal with my fear of heights. Delivered all the light fixtures to the house today and picked up the new dishwasher. Upgraded the spindles for the stairs, which will arrive tomorrow. At last no more ladders to get to the main floor. Hardwood floor is finished and looks great. Ceramic people come Monday to start their work. I will take lots of pictures and post them tomorrow. 8 Days
until completion

What
a complete waste of time today was,
Tried to start on the deck but got nowhere fast. It rained, the lumber truck got stuck in the mud. They failed to bring the deck plan. We had to drive into town twice, and still not a single board is in place. The stairs are in, at last no more ladders and I can visit the upstairs more regularly. Furnaces arrived today. Electrician will install the light fixtures this weekend, and ceramics and carpeting will begin installation Monday. Central Air and Alarm system will also be installed along with phone service Monday. The gun cabinet
will be delayed along with the kitchen cabinets.

72 hours work

Well this
is probably the last entry before we move in.
We spent 6 grueling days building the deck, never again, will I attempt such a project, or impose on my Dad and siblings like that. I had no idea how much difficulty was involved in building this size and height of deck. My Dad put in some incredible hours and I am sure his knees and back are aching. Thanks Dad...
The temporary cabinets are in and we will be living with them for 10 days. Yechh Light fixtures
and ceiling fans are in.
Tonight we load the U haul and spend the next 2 days moving. There will still be workmen around for a couple of weeks, but at least we will be in. I will update the page and show the interior in the coming weeks. Thanks for your interest in our project. Unlike my sister-in-law, I don't feel like we made a spectacle of our home or of ourselves. We wanted to share with others the process, of which we knew very little about in the beginning. If any of you learned a little along the way with us, it was worthwhile creating this site. Also it gave family and friends from around the world a way to see, how our home was coming along. 92 days from start to occupancy.. Jeff |
| August 20th | Well we
have lived here for a week.
We are just so grateful to be moved we don't mind that the place isn't finished. Everytime something new goes into place we really appreciate it. So perhaps it is good that things are happening this way. Moving was a horrible experience ! we started at 8:30 in the morning and finished about 1:30 the following morning. Once again I imposed on my friends (this time) and I would like to thank. Steve Bowman (worked like a dog) Henry Sikora Tom Sheehan
(brought a trailer and amused the
Gilbert and Debbie Boehm (problem solvers) Mike Brabant (did it the rail way) Dana and Julie Lynchock ( moved my computer) Alisha Lynchock
(babysat our girls and allowed us to have one less thing to worry about)
More pictures
of the inside of Casa Virgin, as things are finished.
