There's also a scene where the innocent young love interest becomes obsessed with the idea of crucifying a four-year-old child and listening to him scream while eating pineapple compote. Also, the ending is just weird. Nine hundred pages of theological speculation and courtroom drama, capped off with a boyscout meeting.
