The bass plays the root (bass) notes in the barre rhythm chords. The rhythm guitar requires switching to clean and distortion... How much? Listen to the track and check! The lead guitar requires some sort of wave effect with some reverb/echo and delay... How much? Again, listen to the track and check! The lead guitar also needs to be played slide style, so you should perhaps adjust the action on your guitar. You will obviously also need some sort of bottleneck or you can improvise with anything hollow and cylindrical that you can get your finger into. The slide usually goes on your little "pinky" finger or if you're like me, on your ring finger (that is, the next finger along from your little finger) The important thing is that when playing slide guitar, you must play the note right over the desired fret and not between frets as you'd normally do! (By the way, for those of you who don't know... Frets are the parallel metal strips situated along the fret-board that lie perpendicular to the strings). The other thing is to dampen the strings with the remaining fingers, behind the fret. After knowing the above, I'm sure you get the idea of the way the song is played. I am being a little pedantic with the detail, but you don't have to be. Play loose with an open attitude! I'm not going to say much more about this song... It is just one of the coolest songs and if you have not heard it already, go and get it! Recommended Chord Positions: G 32OO33 or 355433 Bm x24432 C x32O1O or x35553 D xxO232 or x57775 Am xO221O or 577555 Dsus2 xxO23O or x57755 Em O22OOO or x79987 A xO222O or 577655 The Bm sounds good, but I think I hear the bass playing F#, so if you want, substitute the Bm in the transcription with F#/Bm 224432 There are two ways to play all the lead Figures: Lead Figure 1(i): E| 10~~~~~~ 12\ 7~~~~~~ 8\ 7 \ 5\ 3 3~~~ | B| 3/ 5\ 3~~~~~~ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 1(ii): E| | B| 3/ 15~~~~~~ 17\ 12~~~~~~ 13\ 12 \ 10\ 8 8~~~ 5\ 3~~~~~~ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 2(i): E| 10~~~~~~ 12\ 7~~~~~~ 8\ 7 \ 5\ 3 3~~~ /5~~~~~~ | B| 3/ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 2(ii): E| | B| 3/ 15~~~~~~ 17\ 12~~~~~~ 13\ 12 \ 10\ 8 8~~~ /10~~~~~~ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 3(i): E| 7~~~~~~ 5/ 7~~~~~~ 5/ 7~~~~~~ 5\ 3~~~~~~ /5~~~~~~ | B| 3/ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 3(ii): E| | B| 3/ 12~~~~~~ 10/ 12~~~~~~ 10/ 12~~~~~~ 10\ 8~~~~~~ /10~~~~~~ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 4(i): E| 10~~~~~~ 12\ 7~~~~~~ 8\ 7 \ 5\ 3 3~~~ | B| 3/ 5\ 3 5\ 3~~~ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Lead Fig 4(ii): E| | B| 3/ 15~~~~~~ 17\ 12~~~~~~ 13\ 12 \ 10\ 8 8~~~ 5\ 3 5\ 3~~~ | G| | D| | A| | E| | Remember, you're playing side style, so you'll need to "slide" throughout the song even when the transcription doesn't say so! The tab is only a rough guide! I know there are more lead slide sections in the song, but they're barely audible and they don't stray from the notes I've given you, so I guess you can just improvise on these sections like I do!
