Get involved......
Whenever there is a dog "attack" there is a hue and cry about what should be done and this ranges from licencing owners, banning certain breeds, etc. The general populace fails to put things in perspective; ie: the number of attacks are "miniscule" when you consider the number of dogs and in almost every case it has little to do with breed but rather lack of training and personality of the owner.
I would ask every responsible dog owner, whenever the issue arises, contact politicians at the municipal, provincial and federal level. write letters to the editor, call talk shows, etc.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. When it's in your best interest--practice obedience..Let others know when they've invaded your territory. Take naps and stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree. When your happy, dance around and wag your entire body. No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout... run right back and make iends. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something your not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

On the first day of creation, God created the dog.
On the second day, God created man to serve the dog.
On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth (especially the horse) to serve as potential food for the dog.
On the fourth day, God created honest toil so man could labor for the good of the dog.
On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so the dog might or might not retrieve it.
On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the dog healthy and man broke.
On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but He had to walk the dog.
Some local people who bust their asses looking after other people's mistakes.........
Give them a call if you are looking for a dog; need to find a new home for a dog; want to volunteer some time or money, etc.

I am no expert but I hope to share some thoughts about pets and if you are looking for a pet, you will consider giving a good home to an abandoned animal from shelters that are operated by people who get involved because they really care.
If you are not considering adopting a pet you might still want to consider making a small donation of either time or money to one of these rescue shelters in your area.
I would
like to add a personal cautionary note...like any volunteer
organization/charity you should make yourself aware of the agenda of
the rescue shelter and that donations go to supporting the rescued
animals firstand not to hidden agendas.
