Looking for any relatives of the Mike BALACKI/BALACKE family. Mike was brother to my father-in-law and have proof that he was living in Kitwanga during WW11 (1942) because the U.S. government sent a telegram regarding the brother, Harry, that was in the U.S. Air Force. The two brothers came from Markowa, Austria in 1909. Can only assume that Mike stayed in Canada. Have sent letters to two BALACKI families living in the Province of Quebec, but have received no reply. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Judie S. Balacke.

Looking for info on Vincent ANDREWS; wife Mary Anne HOLLOWAY or (HOLLERAN); children John Henry, Sarah Ann and Edward ANDREWS. Vincent came to Quebec about 1838. Was a member of the British Coldstream Guard. It is possible that his unit came to crush the Rebellion of 1839. Vincent (and family) stayed on in Canada. I have been unable to locate military documents on him. All of my research comes to a dead end until 1847. Vincent is now found as a "surgeryman" (surgical ass't) employed at Grosse IIe Quarantine Station. Child Edward is born on the island Apr. 28, 1847. Mary Anne then dies on the island June 27, 1847 and finally, Vincent dies July 23, 1847 on Grosse Ile also. The three children John Henry, b: May 14, 1838, Sarah Ann, b: Sept. 24, 1839 and Edward are orphaned. Family history states they were placed in "military orphanage" in Quebec City. Eventually, Sarah is found in Hamilton, Ontario. She and brother John (as adults) depart to Vermilion Co., Illinois. Edward is lost. I am the great great grandaughter of Vincent ANDREWS, hoping to meet other ANDREWS researchers. Because I am an American, does anyone know of a military orphanage in Quebec City at the time of the arrival of the Famine Ships? Does anyone have documentation re the British Coldstream Guards on duty in Quebec? Is there anybody avidly researching Grosse Ile that might recommend books and documentation for me? Have lots of U.S. info to share. Please contact Nancy ANDREWS Muenchausen.
